Mission Statement:

​ The Lancaster Department of Transportation provides the following services for the citizens of Lancaster:
​ * We assist our Engineering Department with the administration of the voter passed 3 Mil Levy that funds our 10 Year Street Repaving Program.
​ * We clean and maintain the City's streets and alleys.
​ * We clean, inspect, install and maintain the various parts of the City's Storm Water management system.
​ * We maintain the City's Traffic Signals, Street Signs and Pavement Markings.
​ * We remove Snow and Ice during the winter months to help provide for safe travel.
​ * We provide support services for local events such as the Lancaster Festival, parades and Destination Downtown Lancaster/Special Improvement District.
​ * We operate and maintain the City's centralized fuel depot.
​ * We respond to emergency situations to provide traffic control and storm damage clean-up  24/7.

Streetlight Outage Reporting Information
When a non-functioning streetlight is discovered, you can report it directly to American Electric Power (AEP), South Central Power Company (SCP) or the City of Lancaster. Since there are 3 different entities who maintain the city's street lighting services, you will need to determine which one to contact.
Identifying a City-Owned Street Light & Pole
The City of Lancaster maintains the decorative poles that are located in the downtown area.

These can be reported directly to the Lancaster Department of Transportation by calling 740-687-6668 or submitting a Street Light Outage form. When contacting us, please include all of the requested information.

American Electric Power Street Light
AEP maintain street lights that are located throughout the rest of the city similar to the one pictured below. There are 2 ways to determine if the street light is maintained by AEP:
  • If it is near your house and your electric service provider is AEP, then most likely the street light is maintained by AEP also.
  • Each pole should have a pole tag similar to the ones shown.
South Central Power Street Light
SCP maintain the street lights that are located throughout the rest of the city. There are 2 ways to determine if the street light is maintained by South Central Power:
  • If it is near your house and your electric service provider is SCP, then most likely the street light is maintained by SCP also.
  • Each pole should have a pole tag similar to the one shown.
